Lagos says its outdated property records are slowing down real estate innovation. New GIS mapping and digital house numbering reforms could finally give PropTech startups the data backbone they need to scale.
Lagos State is ramping up GIS mapping, cadastral digitisation, and digital house numbering as part of efforts to modernise its property sector and accelerate PropTech adoption. Real estate entrepreneur Roland Igbinoba says poor access to verified land and property data has remained one of the biggest barriers to innovation in Nigeria’s real estate market.
The reforms could improve transparency, simplify property verification, and support digital platforms offering real estate financing, listings, and investment services. Industry players also believe better land data infrastructure may reduce fraud and attract more institutional investment into the sector.
Lagos officials say the broader digitisation drive could position the city as one of Africa’s leading PropTech hubs within the next few years.
