REDAN Seeks Annual Certification for Nigeria’s Property Developers

Written on

Nigeria’s real estate developers could face annual professional certification under a new industry proposal. REDAN says the system would help buyers distinguish credible developers from unregistered operators and reduce property investment risks.

The Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN) has proposed an annual certification system requiring developers to demonstrate continued compliance with professional and industry standards. The proposed Certificate of Professional Good Standing would be renewed yearly after developers meet ethical, technical and regulatory requirements.

REDAN says the framework could help distinguish reputable developers from unscrupulous operators while giving homebuyers, investors and financial institutions an additional tool for assessing property businesses. It comes amid persistent concerns over fraudulent land transactions, abandoned projects and unregistered developers in Nigeria’s property market.

If implemented effectively, annual certification could strengthen industry accountability, improve investor confidence and complement government efforts to professionalize Nigeria’s housing sector.
