Ghana Targets Unlicensed Real Estate Agents in New Enforcement Drive

Ghana’s real estate regulator is preparing a major crackdown on unlicensed agents and brokers. The move aims to curb fraud, improve transparency, and restore trust in property transactions.
Ghana’s Real Estate Agency Council has announced plans to intensify enforcement against unlicensed agents and brokers operating across the country. The move follows growing concerns about illegal practices, consumer fraud, and weak compliance within parts of the property sector.
According to industry leaders, the enforcement campaign will include inspections of offices and business operations, with sanctions expected for firms and individuals found operating without the required licenses. The initiative is backed by the Real Estate Agency Act, which established professional standards and regulatory oversight for the industry.
Supporters say stricter enforcement could boost confidence among investors, homebuyers, and tenants by making it easier to identify legitimate practitioners. The Council is also pushing for greater use of due diligence tools and stronger collaboration with financial institutions to improve transparency in property transactions.
