UN Warns 3.4 Billion People Face Global Housing Crisis

The UN says nearly half the world could soon be living without adequate housing. A new warning from UN-Habitat says the global housing crisis is accelerating faster than cities can respond
UN-Habitat has warned that up to 3.4 billion people worldwide now lack access to secure, safe, and adequate housing, describing the situation as a growing global emergency.
The warning was released ahead of the World Urban Forum in Baku, where governments and urban experts are discussing housing affordability, informal settlements, and rapid urbanisation.
The agency says decades of underinvestment, population growth, displacement, and rising living costs are worsening housing conditions across both developed and developing countries. More than one billion people are already estimated to be living in slums or informal settlements globally.
UN-Habitat also warned that without urgent reforms, slum populations could triple by 2050 as cities struggle to keep pace with demand.
