Japanese Engineering Firm Chodai Co. Proposes Strategic Partnership to Tackle Nigeria's Housing Deficit

In a high-level meeting in Abuja, Japanese consultancy Chodai Co. expressed interest in partnering with the Federal Ministry of Housing to drive smart city development, social housing, and renewable energy infrastructure across all 774 local government areas.
Japanese engineering and infrastructure consultancy Chodai Company Limited has presented a comprehensive proposal to the Nigerian Federal Government to support nationwide social housing and smart urban development initiatives.
The proposal was submitted during a bilateral meeting in Abuja between a delegation led by Chodai’s Motoko Imai and Nigeria's Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Engr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma, organized by the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC).
Chodai, a Tokyo-based infrastructure firm already executing projects in Niger State, aims to deploy its engineering innovation, technical expertise, and public-private partnership (PPP) frameworks across Nigeria.
The firm’s proposal spans social housing delivery, road construction, hydropower generation, and renewable energy systems designed to align with the Federal Government's plan to deploy social housing units across all 774 local government areas. Minister Darma reiterated Nigeria's commitment to collaborating with international investors under the Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that the nationwide housing initiative will prioritize social safety nets, gender-inclusive allocations for vulnerable women and children, and displaced populations.
