Building-materials firm ABC Group has opened ABC Hauz on Mombasa Road, its 18th showroom in East Africa, as Kenya's construction sector returns to 6.8% growth against an annual housing deficit of about 244,000 units.
International building-materials firm ABC Group has entered the Kenyan market with the opening of ABC Hauz, its 18th showroom in East Africa, located on Mombasa Road in Nairobi.
The group pointed to a recovery in Kenyan construction, citing the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics economic survey for 2026, which showed the sector grew 6.8% in 2025 after a 0.7% contraction in 2024. It attributed the rebound largely to renewed road construction and maintenance, increased residential building activity and stronger demand for construction materials.
ABC Group put the annual housing deficit at approximately 244,000 units against supply of fewer than 50,000, saying the gap makes the cost, availability and quality of building materials a central issue for both the industry and the wider homes market.
"Kenya presents an important opportunity for businesses that understand the construction market and are prepared to build lasting relationships with customers," said Mohammad Rijaz, executive director of ABC Group. "As investors, we need a predictable operating environment to plan, invest and deliver value to our customers, our shareholders, and the wider economy."
George Ndege, president of the Architectural Association of Kenya, said the sector's main problem is not only the volume of materials and units but professional standards. "Developers must engage qualified professionals, follow the regulations and use the right quality materials," he said, adding that a good product can still fail when it is poorly installed. The association, which represents eight built-environment professions and about 5,000 registered members, has partnered with ABC Hauz on a Build Hub co-working space for young practitioners and plans to publish its Status of the Built Environment Report in December 2026.
ABC Group founder and managing director Muhammed Madani said the company is looking at the next phase of its investment, including the possibility of manufacturing furniture, doors and windows in Kenya within two years, and introduced Finch, a rewards app aimed at artisans and plumbers who specify and install building products.
