Lagos State and EFCC Join Forces to Crack Down on Real Estate Fraud

The Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority (LASRERA) has deepened its strategic partnership with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to curb widespread fraudulent practices in the state's booming property sector.
Officials from the Lagos State Ministry of Housing and LASRERA met with the EFCC's Lagos Zonal Directorate to establish enhanced joint enforcement, investigation, and prosecution mechanisms targeting real estate scams.
The collaboration focuses specifically on eliminating common industry offenses, including document forgery, unauthorized property flipping, title impersonation, and fraudulent land sales.
With real estate disputes representing a significant volume of consumer complaints received by law enforcement, the EFCC and LASRERA will cross-verify developer registrations via LASRERA’s digital portal to ensure legitimacy.
Authorities emphasize that combining regulatory oversight with federal prosecutorial power will protect investors, safeguard diaspora capital, and restore market integrity across Lagos State.
