President Tinubu Dissolves Federal Property Sales Committee, Shifts Oversight to Attorney General

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the immediate dissolution of the Committee on the Sale of Federal Government Properties, bringing an end to the administrative body that has overseen the disposal of public real estate assets for over two decades.

Under the new executive directive, all responsibility for managing and disposing of Federal Government-owned land, residential, commercial, and institutional properties will be transferred directly to the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.

The Presidency stated that maintaining the dedicated committee was no longer justified, framing the dissolution as part of broader civil service reforms aimed at streamlining government operations, eliminating redundant bodies, and improving administrative efficiency.

By centralizing real estate oversight within the Ministry of Justice, the Federal Government intends to establish a more transparent, legally sound framework for future property transactions.

Real estate analysts note that while the policy on public asset disposal remains intact, consolidating oversight could enhance transaction predictability and accelerate the release of underutilized government lands for private sector redevelopment.
