Wike Closes Abuja Secretariat for Federal Government House Sales

The FCT Administration has formally shut the secretariat of the dissolved committee overseeing the sale of Federal Government houses in Abuja. A new division within the Department of Land Administration will now handle related matters.
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike has ordered the immediate closure of the secretariat of the dissolved Ad-hoc Committee on the Sale of Federal Government Houses in Abuja. The committee had completed its assignment, but its secretariat remained temporarily operational to deal with matters arising from its work.
As part of the restructuring, Wike has approved the creation of a dedicated division within the FCT Department of Land Administration to handle matters relating to the sale of Federal Government houses. The new division will assume responsibilities previously handled by the dissolved committee.
The FCT Administration has directed members of the public seeking information or assistance concerning Federal Government house sales to approach the Department of Land Administration going forward.
The administration has also issued a warning about potential fraud. Members of the public have been cautioned against individuals claiming to be staff, officers or members of the former committee or its secretariat, as both bodies no longer exist.
The restructuring comes as Federal Government-owned residential properties remain an important component of Abuja's real estate market. A more permanent administrative structure could provide greater continuity in managing these assets and future transactions, while clear procedures for valuation, documentation and eligibility will be important for prospective buyers.
For property investors, the development reinforces the need to verify the official channel for any Federal Government property transaction and avoid dealing with individuals claiming authority from the dissolved committee.
