Two people were rescued alive after the ground floor of a six-flat building collapsed on Friday in Kubwa, a satellite town of Abuja, with no fatalities recorded.

The incident occurred at about 11:30 am at Kubwa 2/2, near Yellow Page, with other occupants reportedly away from the building when it collapsed. The victims, who were trapped after the collapse, are said to be in stable condition.

Nkechi Isa, spokesperson for the FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD), said the agency received a distress call at about 11:38 am and immediately mobilised emergency responders to the scene. She said the two residents were successfully rescued alive, adding that no fatality was recorded in the incident.

"The two residents were pulled out alive with no fatalities recorded. However, the collapse caused significant loss of personal belongings and household items," she stated.

Isa said officials of the Department of Development Control and the FCT Police Command also responded to the scene. According to her, the agencies secured the area and commenced investigations to determine the cause of the structural failure.
