Taita Taveta Begins 28-Day Land Survey Push to Issue Over 50,000 Title Deeds

Kenya's Taita Taveta County has launched a 28-day survey and adjudication exercise targeting more than 50,000 title deeds, with over 31,000 residents expected to benefit at no cost.
More than 31,000 residents of Taita Taveta County in Kenya are set to benefit from a 28-day land survey and adjudication exercise targeting the processing of over 50,000 title deeds, as national and county authorities move to address longstanding ownership disputes.
The programme, undertaken jointly by national and county government survey teams, will initially cover Maungu Township, Kaloleni Phase II, Kesi Settlement Scheme, Kishamba B, Chawia-Wumari-Sechu and 10 informal settlements in Voi, Mwatate and Taveta.
Taita Taveta Governor Andrew Mwadime said the exercise follows prolonged appeals to the national government over residents who have lived without formal documentation of their land, with beneficiaries expected to receive the survey and adjudication services without paying fees.
He said securing ownership documents would help settle disputes that have persisted for decades and give affected families formal recognition of their land rights.
The exercise will be overseen by Deputy Director of Land Settlement and Adjudication Erick Onchana from the State Department for Lands and Physical Planning and County Executive Committee Member for Lands Christine Zighe.
The county administration has also directed that the subdivision, adjudication and title processing of Kishamba B Group Ranch be undertaken by government surveyors rather than private consultants.
