South African Homeowners Face New Property Rate Hikes From July

Owning a home in South Africa is about to get more expensive. New municipal tariffs taking effect from July will push up property rates, utilities and other household costs across major cities.

South African households will see higher municipal bills from 1 July as new tariffs for electricity, water, sanitation, refuse removal and property rates come into effect across the country's metros.

While the size of the increases varies by municipality, most homeowners will face higher monthly housing-related expenses.

The changes are expected to place additional pressure on household budgets and raise the cost of property ownership, even as inflation and borrowing costs remain elevated.

Some cities have introduced smaller increases or limited relief measures, but utility and property costs are still set to climb for most residents in the new financial year.
