Four accused alleged to have used falsified documents to secure a residential lease in Waterkloof Heights, Pretoria, will return to court in February 2027 while the State completes financial investigations.
The property fraud case against Vusumuzi "Cat" Matlala, 50, his wife Tsakani Matlala, 38, Claudette Masethe, 31, and Given Makofane, 46, has been postponed to 11 February 2027 to allow the State to complete its financial investigations.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said the State had asked for a postponement for further investigations relating to financial investigations, and that the process was lengthy because investigators needed to examine the financial statements of each accused individually.
The four appeared in court on Thursday, 29 October. According to the prosecution, Matlala and his co-accused acted with common purpose between 13 and 21 January 2025 to secure a residential lease agreement for a high-end estate in Waterkloof Heights, in eastern Pretoria. The rental fee for the property was set at R95,000 per month.
The State alleges the accused used falsified documents to obtain the lease. The matter returns to court next year once the financial investigations are concluded.
