Lagos Infrastructure Projects Need Stronger Coordination, LWC and Julius Berger Say

Lagos’ infrastructure ambitions could be undermined by weak coordination between key project stakeholders. LWC and Julius Berger are calling for closer collaboration to improve delivery and the city’s rapidly expanding infrastructure network.
The Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) and Julius Berger Nigeria Plc are seeking stronger coordination between road construction and water infrastructure projects across Lagos Island and surrounding areas. The discussions are intended to reduce conflicts between major construction works and existing water networks.
The engagement followed a familiarisation visit by LWC Managing Director Mukhtaar Tijani to Julius Berger's Ijora office on August 12, 2026. Both organisations identified early communication and technical coordination as important for protecting existing pipelines and minimising disruptions to water services during road construction.
The discussions also focused on improving access to project drawings and other technical information. Julius Berger noted that detailed project drawings require approval from the relevant project client, prompting both sides to consider engaging the Lagos State Government to facilitate access to the necessary information.
The collaboration highlights the growing importance of integrated infrastructure planning as Lagos expands. Better coordination between water, transport and other infrastructure agencies could reduce avoidable damage, limit construction delays and improve the reliability of essential services.
For the property sector, reliable infrastructure remains critical to the development of sustainable residential and commercial communities. Better planning could also help reduce some of the infrastructure-related risks associated with new property development across Lagos.
