Kenya's Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development Cabinet Secretary, Alice Wahome, has urged built-environment professionals to reach consensus on the proposed Architectural and Quantity Surveying Practitioners Bill, warning that a slow agreement could affect the legislative calendar.
Speaking on 3 September 2026 at the Board of Registration of Architects and Quantity Surveyors (BORAQS) annual continuing professional development seminar at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi, Wahome said practitioners needed to make timely decisions on the draft legislation, noting that the political calendar could impact the timeline if consensus was delayed.
The Cabinet Secretary also called on regulators to streamline and accelerate licensing for qualified emerging professionals, arguing that professional skills are developed through active practice and that lengthy registration pipelines were unnecessary for qualified candidates.
She urged closer collaboration across built-environment disciplines, including architects, quantity surveyors and engineers, and acknowledged the rising presence of women in construction professions at the industry forum.
