Kenya's KDF housing project in Nanyuki reaches 98% completion ahead of handover

A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) housing project in Nanyuki is nearing completion, with construction of 790 housing units at Kwambuzi Military Camp now 98 per cent complete, according to the Ministry of Defence.
Defence Principal Secretary Patrick Mariru said the project is part of 3,069 housing units being constructed across the country for KDF personnel under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework.
Mariru spoke after inspecting the ongoing works at the military camp in Laikipia County, accompanied by Chief of Special Projects at Defence Headquarters, Brigadier Titus Sokobe. He said final works, including deep cleaning and other finishing activities, are underway as preparations continue for the handover of the project in the coming weeks.
The project is expected to contribute significantly to addressing the housing needs of KDF personnel and improving their welfare, as the government expands efforts to provide service members with affordable home ownership opportunities.
In July 2026, KDF personnel were set to benefit from a new mortgage scheme offering financing at about four per cent interest, launched through a partnership between the Kenya Defence Forces, the Civil Servants Housing Scheme Fund, the Affordable Housing Board and KCB Bank Kenya Limited.
Mariru said decent housing for military personnel is part of broader government efforts to improve living standards for public servants while strengthening the Affordable Housing Programme.
