Kenya’s construction industry is expanding rapidly, increasing demand for workers with specialised technical skills across housing, infrastructure, and private development projects. Data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics shows construction activity grew 6.8% in 2025, while cement consumption and development activity also rebounded.
The recovery is creating stronger demand for skilled and semi-skilled workers as developers increasingly rely on machinery, specialised equipment, and more technical construction methods. However, wage growth remains modest, particularly for lower-skilled workers, highlighting a gap between rising industry output and workers’ earnings.
The trend could make technical training and vocational skills increasingly important as Kenya’s housing and infrastructure pipeline expands.
