The Kenya Army has briefed troops at Kahawa Garrison on a newly established Kenya Defence Forces mortgage scheme that aims to give military personnel and their families structured access to affordable homeownership.
The Kenya Army has moved to strengthen personnel welfare and long-term financial security through a housing sensitisation programme at Kahawa Garrison, held on 10 September 2026, the African Press Agency reports.
The briefing, led by Commander Kenya Army Lieutenant General David Ketter, focused on the newly established Kenya Defence Forces Mortgage Scheme. The initiative is designed to give military personnel and their families structured access to affordable homeownership by clarifying eligibility criteria, flexible financing structures, application workflows and repayment terms.
The scheme operates under a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Kenya Defence Forces, the Civil Servants Housing Scheme Fund, the Affordable Housing Board and KCB Bank to deliver tailored financial products to defence personnel.
Addressing troops at the garrison, Lieutenant General Ketter urged service members to integrate property acquisition into their long-term financial planning, saying residential stability directly reinforces force morale, family security and operational readiness.
Participating financial and institutional partners ran interactive sessions to guide personnel through the application process, part of what APA describes as the military leadership's broader strategy to prioritise financial literacy, force welfare and post-service stability.
