Interior Ministry secures 76 acres at Akyem Oda for police depot

The Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area has released 76 acres for a new Ghana Police Service depot to train Formed Police Unit recruits, with a joint team inspecting the site.
The Ghana Police Service is to establish a depot at Akyem Oda for the training of Formed Police Unit (FPU) recruits, with the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area making 76 acres of land available for the venture.
A four-member team, two each from the Ministry for the Interior and the Police Administration, met traditional rulers from Akyem Kotoku State at Oda to discuss the modalities for the new police depot. The visit followed an appeal to Interior Minister Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka and Inspector-General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno by the Omanhene of the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area, Oseadeeyo Dr Frimpong Manso IV.
The team, which included traditional rulers, the Municipal Chief Executive for Birim Central, Solomon Brako Kusi, and police personnel from the Oda Divisional Police Command, inspected the land earmarked for the new police training school.
In an address, the Omanhene cautioned individuals who had encroached on the police land to vacate it voluntarily, warning that a combined police and traditional council team would otherwise evict them without compensation. He said Oda was strategically positioned at the centre of the new Accra-Kumasi expressway, where many industrial establishments are expected to be sited, and noted there were abundant building materials such as sand and stones at Akyem Ajobue that could be used for construction.
The Omanhene appealed to tipper truck owners to voluntarily release their vehicles to cart building materials to the project site and urged affluent Akyem Kotoku citizens to contribute financially towards the facilities. The team also inspected a new police office complex under construction for the Oda Divisional Police Command.
The Oda Divisional Crime Officer, Chief Superintendent Abdulai Kamagate, said the office complex was being funded with local resources because the rented premises the police had occupied for more than 50 years had been sold off by the landlord. Team leaders Solomon Tetteh Mensah of the Ministry for the Interior and Supt. Stephen Abakah of the Police Administration commended the traditional area for its efforts and promised to carry their concerns forward.
