Heavy Lagos Floods Submerge Homes, Expose Urban Drainage Gaps

Written on

Days of heavy rainfall have left homes underwater across parts of Lagos. The flooding is once again raising questions about the city's resilience as extreme weather intensifies.

Heavy rainfall has triggered widespread flooding across several Lagos communities, submerging homes, disrupting electricity supply and leaving major roads impassable.

Residents in low-lying neighbourhoods were forced to move belongings to safety or temporarily evacuate as floodwaters entered homes and damaged property.

The latest flooding has renewed concerns over Lagos' drainage infrastructure and the vulnerability of residential communities to increasingly severe weather events.

Officials and urban planners say sustained investment in flood control, drainage upgrades and climate-resilient infrastructure will be critical as the city prepares for more intense rainfall during the rainy season.
