Ghana Building Cost Inflation Hits 3.1% as Equipment Costs Surge

Ghana’s construction cost pressures remain subdued overall, but equipment costs are flashing a warning sign. Building cost inflation rose to 3.1% in June even as overall input prices fell slightly month-on-month.
Ghana’s building cost inflation increased to 3.1% in June 2026, up from 2.7% in May, despite a 0.1% monthly decline in overall construction input prices. Data from the Ghana Statistical Service shows building materials remain the biggest driver, contributing about 96% of the annual increase in construction costs.
However, equipment costs are emerging as a major pressure point, with plant and machinery inflation jumping to 16% year-on-year. Labour costs, meanwhile, fell 2.6%, while cement and steel prices also declined, providing some relief to developers and contractors.
The sharp fall from 18.1% building-cost inflation a year earlier signals a much more stable construction environment, although rising equipment and installation costs could complicate project budgets ahead.
