The federal government has handed over 129 housing units to beneficiaries of the FMBN Rent-to-Own programme in Nasarawa State and promised to deliver the remaining 122 units before the end of 2026.
The federal government has handed over 129 housing units to beneficiaries of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) Rent-to-Own housing programme and promised to deliver the remaining 122 units before the end of 2026.
The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqha Darma, gave the assurance at the handover ceremony held at the Nasarawa Technology Village, Karu, Nasarawa State. He said the 129 beneficiaries had been unable to take possession of their homes after part of the Brains & Hammers Bungalow City, where they were originally allocated houses, was subsequently allocated to security agencies.
"Today marks the culmination of a difficult chapter into a new beginning for 129 Nigerian families. The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria is now delivering the keys to 129 of these beneficiaries. I assure the 122 others that before the end of this year, you will get your houses," Darma said.
He said the delivery fulfilled a commitment by the government to resolve the housing challenge faced by the affected beneficiaries, noting that the 129 units were delivered before the end of August as earlier promised. He stressed that the government's housing policy was focused on improving the welfare of Nigerians and restoring confidence in public institutions.
Darma reiterated the federal government's commitment to delivering 100,000 housing units promised by the President before the end of his tenure, through the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), FMBN and projects being constructed directly by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
