Egypt issues national property ID numbers for buildings across the country

Written on

Egypt has issued national real estate identification numbers for all buildings nationwide, linking many individual units to utilities data in a push to tighten property records and ownership verification.

National real estate identification numbers have now been issued for all buildings across Egypt, with a large number of individual units also linked through integration with utilities data, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology said.

Mahmoud Badawi, Assistant Minister of Communications and Information Technology for Digital Transformation, said the National Real Estate Identification Number Law assigns a unique, standardised code to every property, residential unit and plot of land.

The system is intended to prevent duplicate transactions, reduce overlapping records and strengthen verification of property ownership. It is also being used as part of new digital mechanisms for protecting state assets and improving the delivery of public services.

The real estate identification system forms part of broader digital transformation work led by the ministry. The Egypt Digital platform currently provides 245 government services, with the ministry targeting more than 400 by 2030.

The ministry also said the Digital Identity Platform now allows citizens to complete transactions requiring personal verification entirely online, including powers of attorney and notarisation, without visiting government offices.
