American technology company Cybastion is planning a $75 million investment in an AI-powered data center and power plant in Cameroon, adding fresh momentum to the country's drive to strengthen its digital infrastructure.
The planned investment was announced by the US Embassy in Cameroon on August 27 during the inaugural US-Cameroon Bilateral Economic and Commercial Dialogue, which brought together government officials and private-sector representatives from both countries.
Cybastion's project was among approximately $7 billion in new and expanding American investment and trade opportunities highlighted during the dialogue, with the broader pipeline spanning technology, critical minerals, infrastructure and other sectors.
For Cameroon, the proposed project could be an important addition to a digital economy that is expanding but still faces infrastructure and energy constraints, with data centers requiring dependable electricity and strong connectivity.
The investment comes as demand for cloud computing, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and locally hosted digital services continues to grow across Africa, and as West African nations accelerate investment in digital infrastructure to establish themselves as regional artificial intelligence hubs.
