Amrahia Dairy Farms landowners petition Mahama over demolition of homes

Land and property owners at Amrahia Dairy Farms have petitioned President John Mahama over the alleged demolition of their homes and properties without a court order by individuals who claim to be acting on the authority of the Presidency.

The aggrieved residents, clad in red attire and arm bands, presented a petition to the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service before proceeding to the Presidency with another petition. The demonstration was led by Prosper Joemens Rhormiller, chairman of the Amrahia Dairy Farms Property and Land Owners Association, who said the demolitions constituted a violation of the fundamental human rights of affected residents.

The association said the government recognised in November 2020 that compensation had not been paid to pre-acquisition owners of the land, leading to engagement between the then Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and the families. It said the released portion of the land was to be shared among the families in collaboration with the Lands Commission.

According to the petitioners, on March 18, 2026 a company called Global Delivery Services, accompanied by armed police officers and led by Ben Seyram Attiaka and Clemence Gjato, arrived at the area with excavators. A notice issued on March 12 by Global Delivery Limited said the company had received a power of attorney from the grandson of the late Solomon Robert Oddamtten.

The group disputed claims that the Lands Commission had instructed the demolition, arguing that the Commission's mandate is to manage state lands and not to demolish homes, and alleged that documents obtained from the Lands Commission showed inconsistencies about the affected areas and parties involved.
