Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has told senators the Jeevanjee affordable housing project is complete, even as hundreds of buyers who committed savings more than seven years ago say they are still waiting for the homes.
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has declared the Jeevanjee affordable housing project complete, telling the Senate Standing Committee on Roads, Transportation and Housing that the scheme is done.
Hundreds of buyers who committed millions of shillings to the development say they are still waiting for the houses they were promised more than seven years ago, raising questions about the status of the project and the fate of their savings.
Many of the buyers invested their savings through savings and credit co-operative societies (Saccos), and they now fear that their investments, estimated at Sh600 million, could be at risk.
Sakaja told the committee that the county had intervened to revive the stalled Jeevanjee and Pangani housing projects, describing Jeevanjee as almost complete before declaring that it was done.
The delay has left buyers pressing for clarity on when they will finally receive the units they paid for.
