Nigeria Targets Land Reform to Unlock Affordable Housing Boom
Written on
Nigeria is turning to land reform as a possible solution to its housing crisis. The government says fixing land access and ownership systems could unlock more affordable homes and attract new investment.
Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development will lead discussions on land reform and administration at the 2026 Africa International Housing Show as part of efforts to improve affordable housing delivery.
The talks will focus on digitising land records, simplifying property registration and making land more accessible for developers.
Land access remains one of the biggest obstacles facing Nigeria’s housing sector, with complex processes and unclear ownership records increasing development costs.
Stakeholders believe stronger land governance could reduce delays, improve investor confidence and help accelerate housing projects for low-income households.
