Documents obtained by SaharaReporters show the FCT minister approved rights of occupancy over 10 plots in Cadastral Zone E01, Giri, covering about 291 hectares, with one property firm receiving 113.19 hectares.

Nigeria's Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, approved the allocation of about 291.01 hectares of land in Abuja to eight companies, according to documents obtained by SaharaReporters and published on 30 October.

The allocations were made through offers of statutory rights of occupancy covering 10 plots in Cadastral Zone E01, Giri. Beneficiaries include oil and gas companies, property firms, commercial businesses, an educational foundation and other private organisations, the report said.

GI Properties Limited received the largest single allocation, an offer dated 29 September 2026 over Plot 363 measuring about 113.19 hectares under file number MISC 165800. The land was designated for mixed use (comprehensive development) with a 99-year lease, a premium of N500 per square metre and annual rent of N15 per square metre.

Unicorn Oil and Gas Limited received two plots totalling about 40.34 hectares, while Salmond Wave Limited was offered 73.22 hectares under an offer dated 27 June 2024 and Alphaseal Business Limited received two commercial plots totalling about 8.57 hectares at a premium of N5,000 per square metre. The Adorable Foundation for Educational Development was offered 30.57 hectares for a college or university at a premium of N100 per square metre and annual rent of N2 per square metre.

Two smaller allocations went to Linchpin Psychological Services Limited at 2.54 hectares and Total Geospatial Integrated Services Limited at 2.58 hectares, both dated 15 September 2025. The documents also give beneficiaries 21 days to complete payments.

Sources cited by SaharaReporters questioned the distribution of public land in the territory, saying the plots are being carved from land belonging to the University of Abuja while ordinary applicants struggle to secure residential plots of 250 to 500 square metres. The report did not include a response from the FCT administration or from the companies named.
