A $1.9 billion plan has been launched to build an entirely new city in Botswana from the ground up. The project aims to turn Gaborone into a major regional hub for trade, tourism, and investment.
A UAE-based developer, Albaddad Holding, has launched plans for a large-scale $1.9 billion mixed-use city project in Botswana’s capital, Gaborone.
The development, known as New Botswana City, is being delivered in partnership with the Botswana Development Corporation and will span over 1.2 million square metres in multiple phases.
The project includes residential towers, commercial districts, hotels, retail spaces, and a major exhibition and convention centre intended to anchor economic activity. It is designed to position Botswana as a stronger regional hub for trade, business events, and international investment.
The development reflects a growing trend of African cities adopting fully integrated “live-work-play” urban models backed by international capital and state-linked partnerships.
If completed as planned, it could become one of the most ambitious urban developments in Southern Africa.
