Tanzania Woos Algerian Investors as Construction Sector Booms

Written on

Tanzania's ambassador to Algeria has invited Algerian construction firms to invest in Tanzania, citing a sector that contributes about 13 per cent of GDP and grows roughly 10 per cent a year, during the Bati-Est Expo 2026 in Constantine.

Tanzania's ambassador to Algeria, Mobhare Matinyi, has invited Algerian construction and building-materials firms to invest in Tanzania, using the launch of the international construction, real estate and public works exhibition Bati-Est Expo 2026 in Constantine as a platform. Matinyi was guest of honour at the ninth edition of the three-day event, which opened on 14 October 2026 alongside the Governor of Constantine, Kerbouch Kamel.

Addressing the Algeria Press Service, the ambassador said the construction sector in Tanzania contributes about 13 per cent of gross domestic product and grows at an average of 10 per cent a year, adding that the country is a natural hub for regional trade as a member of both the East African Community and the Southern African Development Community.

Matinyi said President Samia Suluhu Hassan has placed special focus on expanding investment in the construction industry, which is witnessing a significant boom and increased inward direct capital. He pointed to strategic projects under implementation, including the construction and expansion of ports and airports, the standard gauge railway linking neighbouring countries, the national road network, residential buildings, hospitals, schools, hotels and sports stadiums, as well as water and power projects.

He added that the government is moving at pace with the development and expansion of the capital city, Dodoma, which will host Tanzania's fourth international airport after Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar. The embassy held talks with several firms interested in producing and exporting building materials, participating in construction projects and importing raw materials from Tanzania, including steel construction company ERCM Salhi, apartment specialist Mirage Landmark, door makers DEI and Fhaima, paint manufacturers ENAP, Julex Color and Semin Algerie, steel fencing firm Atom Metal and artificial turf maker Golden Grass.

The exhibition, organised by Sunflower Communication, hosted 167 exhibitors, mostly from Algeria, as well as others from Turkey, Germany, the United Kingdom, Tunisia and Egypt. Before the Constantine event, Matinyi visited the fourth International Investment and Technology in Agriculture Expo in Annaba, where he also met Algerian companies interested in investing in Tanzania.
