Ruto Expands Kabarnet Affordable Housing Project from 480 to 1,000 Units

Written on

President William Ruto says the Kabarnet Town Affordable Housing Project in Baringo County will be scaled up from 480 to 1,000 units, an addition of 520 homes under the national housing programme.

President William Ruto has announced that the Kabarnet Town Affordable Housing Project in Baringo Central Constituency will be expanded from 480 to 1,000 units, more than doubling the size of the county's flagship residential development under the national affordable housing programme.

The President made the announcement while inspecting the ongoing construction site during a development tour of Baringo County. The planned addition of 520 units represents a significant scale-up of a project that is already the county's largest housing scheme.

Beyond the housing units, Ruto pointed to the programme's role in creating livelihoods, saying construction sites were absorbing masons, carpenters, plumbers, electricians, steel fixers and engineers, while local contractors and construction firms were also finding business openings through the programme.

The housing announcement was one of several infrastructure milestones flagged during the visit. In Eldama Ravine, the President opened a Huduma Centre, flagged off a KSh78.9 million Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Project expected to reach 343 households, and launched construction of a 70-kilometre road network linking Eldama Ravine, Mogotio and Baringo Central constituencies valued at KSh4.2 billion.

Ruto also inspected the Kabarnet Stadium, a 10,000-seat facility under construction that is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026, and laid the foundation stone for Kabarnet University College.

The expansion adds to a national pipeline in which the government is positioning affordable housing as both a supply-side answer to the housing deficit and a source of construction-sector employment in counties.
