Lagos Upgrades Transport Plan to 11 Rail Lines and One Monorail to Boost Real Estate Growth
Written on
Lagos is dramatically expanding its rail master plan to 11 lines and a monorail to tackle congestion and open up new housing corridors, backed by a new dedicated railway training school.
The Lagos State Government has expanded its Strategic Transport Master Plan (STMP) from six rail lines to 11 rail lines and one monorail in an ambitious effort to revolutionize transit across the megacity.
Administered by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), the revised framework seeks to construct extensive mass transit options to ease gridlock and stimulate sustainable real estate growth.
To support this massive expansion, LAMATA has partnered with the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) to build a new Railway Training Centre in Lagos, focusing on developing domestic technical expertise in signalling, maintenance, and railway operations.
Planned routes include the 68-kilometer Green Line connecting Marina to the Lekki Free Zone, which urban planning experts believe will unlock premium transit-oriented housing developments and significantly elevate land values across emerging corridors.
