Lagos Government Demands Rapid Speedup of 940-Unit Egan-Igando and Ipaja Housing Schemes

The Lagos State Government is cracking down on delayed construction timelines in a aggressive bid to deliver nearly 1,000 subsidized homes. Contractors have been issued stern warnings as officials deploy cost-saving engineering tricks to protect low-income buyers from rampant inflation.
The Lagos State Government has ordered property contractors to urgently fast-track construction across major delayed housing projects in Egan-Igando and Ipaja.
Housing Commissioner Moruf Akinderu-Fatai issued the directive during a site inspection, warning that slow execution would not be tolerated. Together, the Egan-Igando Mixed Housing Scheme, the Ipaja Joint Venture Scheme, and the Workers’ Village aim to deliver 940 critical affordable units to the market.
To shield ordinary residents from soaring inflation and rising material costs, the ministry has strategically adjusted finishing specifications to lower development expenses while strictly maintaining building safety standards.
Looking forward, the state’s New Towns Development Authority is simultaneously reviewing planning layouts to support massive, orderly expansion along the Badagry and Epe corridors.
