Lagos Demands Resident Action to Halt Decay in Public Housing Estates

Written on

he Lagos State Government has issued a direct appeal to the residents of state-owned properties, urging collective stewardship to prevent infrastructural collapse and preserve property values.

The Lagos State Ministry of Housing has made an urgent call for residents of government-developed communities to take direct ownership of their neighborhoods' maintenance and security.

Speaking at a monthly stakeholders' engagement held at the Millennium Housing Estate in Agbado-Ijaiye, Ojokoro, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Housing, Abdulhafis Toriola, emphasized that the state cannot carry the burden of estate upkeep alone.

Officials stressed that community-led initiatives—spanning daily sanitation, protecting shared infrastructure from vandalism, and managing minor local repairs—are absolutely critical to maintaining long-term property values.

The ministry hopes to establish a sustainable, collaborative management model that safeguards public housing investments and prevents premium estates from falling into rapid deterioration.
