Kenya to Build KSh300 Million Lands Registry in Murang'a South

Written on

Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome has announced that the government will build a KSh300 million lands registry in Murang'a South, citing pressure on the existing office which handles more than 400,000 land parcels.

The Kenyan government will build a KSh300 million lands registry in Murang'a South, Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome has announced.

Wahome made the announcement on Wednesday while receiving two refurbished containers donated by the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) at Makenji in Katanga Constituency. She said the containers would help as the new lands office is built.

The Cabinet Secretary said the current lands registry in Murang'a town handles more than 400,000 land parcels, underscoring the need for additional offices to improve service delivery.

She said President William Ruto's administration was committed to expanding access to land services across the country, adding that partnerships with development organisations were helping strengthen land governance. "FAO and the EU have been working very closely with us and these containers will help us a lot as we build the new lands office," Wahome said.

Speaking at the event, Senator Veronica Maina welcomed the planned development, saying it reflected the kind of projects communities needed.

Wahome was accompanied by senior lands officials, including National Land Information Management System Director Monica Abongo, Director of Surveys Weldon Maritim and Head of Public Communications Jibril Adan.
