The 88-year-old Hill Station Hotel in Jos has reopened for a soft opening from 1 October 2026 after an extensive redevelopment by Hillside Hospitality, ahead of formal commissioning by Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang.
The historic Hill Station Hotel in Jos, Plateau State, has reopened its doors following an extensive redevelopment, with a soft opening that began on 1 October 2026 ahead of its formal commissioning by the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, in the coming weeks.
Established in 1938, Hill Station has occupied a prominent place in Nigeria's hospitality history, having hosted generations of business leaders, international visitors and dignitaries, including Queen Elizabeth II. Hillside Hospitality Limited leased the hotel from Hill Station Hotel Limited and is carrying out its redevelopment and operations in partnership with the Plateau State Government.
The transformation has covered the property's architecture, interiors, accommodation, dining, wellness, recreation and business facilities, aimed at creating a contemporary luxury destination while retaining the heritage character that has defined Hill Station for nearly nine decades.
Beyond the building itself, Hillside Hospitality said it intends to position the hotel as a gateway into Plateau State's wider tourism ecosystem, building partnerships across tours, transportation, food, culture and adventure to encourage guests to explore more of the state.
The developer said more than 1,500 Plateau indigenes were engaged across different aspects of the Phase One redevelopment, while the resort now directly employs more than 80 indigenes, with direct employment expected to exceed 200 as operations scale up.
For the Plateau State Government, the project is being presented as an example of mobilising private capital to return moribund public assets to productive economic use, with the hotel expected to serve corporate organisations, financial institutions, development agencies and conference organisers.
