Ghana's Lands Commission says regulations to operationalise the Land Act, 2020 (Act 1036) have reached an advanced stage and are before Parliament, alongside a push to open 36 district offices.
Ghana's Lands Commission says preparations for the Legislative Instrument needed to implement the Land Act, 2020 (Act 1036) have reached an advanced stage, with parliamentary approval expected before the end of the year, GBC Ghana Online reported.
Executive Secretary Professor Anthony Owusu-Ansah said the revised draft regulations had been forwarded to Parliament for consideration following consultations with key stakeholders, including Parliament's Committee on Subsidiary Legislation. The regulations are intended to facilitate the effective implementation of the Act and to strengthen land administration, management and governance in Ghana.
"The process towards the enactment of a Legislative Instrument (Regulations) to facilitate the effective implementation of the Land Act, 2020 (Act 1036), and strengthen land administration, management and governance in Ghana, is at an advanced stage," he said.
In a related move, the Commission is working to bring land administration services closer to the public by establishing district offices in selected metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies. Owusu-Ansah said an extensive needs assessment had identified suitable locations and requirements, and that the Commission had engaged selected assemblies, some of which provided office accommodation.
The Commission is currently renovating and furnishing 36 identified facilities to make them operational and to deliver selected land administration services, reducing the need for residents to travel to its existing offices. The two initiatives form part of broader efforts to improve Ghana's land administration system through a tighter regulatory framework and better access to services.
