Construction of the GEMS International School of Zanzibar is expected to begin soon, with the new institution designed to accommodate up to 1,500 students as the islands seek to expand educational infrastructure.
The school's planned capacity has been increased from 1,100 to 1,500 students following an assessment of anticipated demand, adding 400 places to the original plan.
The school will be located within Infinity Hills, a mixed-use development near Stone Town being undertaken by Infinity Developments in partnership with the Zanzibar Housing Corporation (ZHC).
"Education is fundamental to the long-term development of any community," Infinity Developments chief executive Samuel Saba said, adding that the increased capacity reflects anticipated demand and that the investment underscores the importance of integrating education into Zanzibar's growing residential communities.
The developer said the project is expected to support Zanzibar's expanding education sector while providing additional schooling opportunities for families.
