Ghana’s military housing overhaul is accelerating as the Chief of Defence Staff visits key redevelopment sites at Burma Camp. The project aims to replace ageing colonial-era structures with modern, high-density accommodation blocks.
The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) has visited the Burma Camp Redevelopment take-off site at Medo Lines in Accra, as part of ongoing inspections into Ghana Armed Forces housing upgrades. The working visit focused on progress at one of the key phases of the large-scale redevelopment project.
The project is designed to transform existing accommodation by replacing outdated structures with modern housing blocks, ultimately increasing capacity to 258 households through a mix of one- and two-bedroom units. It forms part of a broader effort to address chronic accommodation shortages within the military.
Developers say preparatory work, including reconnaissance surveys, has been completed, with construction expected to move forward ahead of a planned groundbreaking ceremony in July 2026. The redevelopment is being positioned as a long-term solution to improve living conditions for personnel.
Once fully executed, the project is expected to significantly expand housing capacity while modernising infrastructure across Burma Camp, marking one of the Ghana Armed Forces’ most ambitious residential upgrades in recent years
