Lagos says emergency responders saved over ₦118 billion worth of property from fire disasters in 2025. But the state still lost nearly ₦20 billion in assets as fire outbreaks continued across the city.
The Lagos State Government says properties worth ₦118.32 billion were saved from fire incidents across the state in 2025, highlighting improved emergency response efforts by fire and rescue agencies.
Officials also revealed that properties valued at ₦19.72 billion were still lost to various fire outbreaks during the year.
Authorities recorded 1,685 fire incidents and more than 2,600 emergency calls during the period under review, with hundreds of victims rescued alive.
The figures underscore both the scale of fire risks in Nigeria’s commercial capital and the growing pressure on urban emergency infrastructure.
Officials say new reforms and expanded fire safety enforcement could further strengthen disaster response in Africa’s fastest-growing megacity.
