The Tema Development Corporation (TDC) has identified inadequate road access to some of its lands as a major challenge affecting its efforts to expand commercial real estate development.
Head of Corporate Planning and Communications Dorothy A. Asare-Kumah Adolf, speaking during a visit by the sector minister, said access to land earmarked for development remains a key obstacle, particularly as TDC seeks to establish commercial facilities including shops and offices. The corporation has also flagged land encroachment as a hurdle.
The commercial projects form part of TDC's broader push to expand housing delivery and provide residential accommodation within its operational areas. The corporation is targeting March 2027 for completion of the ongoing construction works, after which finishing works will be undertaken.
Management said addressing the access problem would help create the conditions needed to support further construction, attract investment and improve the use of its property assets.
The ministerial visit forms part of a broader review of agencies under the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources, with the government seeking to identify operational gaps and interventions to improve performance. The review comes as the minister pushes for the establishment of a national housing fund to address Ghana's housing deficit and progress towards the UN Sustainable Development Goal on sustainable cities and communities by 2030.
