Nigerian Army, Family Homes Funds commission 50 homes for fallen heroes' widows in Ibadan

The Nigerian Army, in partnership with Family Homes Funds Limited and Post Service Housing Development Limited (PHDL), has commissioned 50 housing units for widows and families of fallen military personnel at PHDL Pacesetter Estate, Akobo, Ibadan, in Oyo State.

The commissioning ceremony, held on Tuesday at the estate, brought together senior military officers, government representatives, traditional rulers, beneficiaries and other stakeholders to honour the sacrifices of personnel who lost their lives in service to the country.

Representing the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the General Officer Commanding, 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Auwalu Mahmuda, said the housing project reflected the Army's commitment to remembering and supporting families of fallen personnel. "These are more than 50 housing units. They represent a practical expression of our appreciation for the sacrifice of our fallen personnel and our commitment to the welfare of their families," he said.

Mahmuda said the homes would provide stability and a secure environment where children could grow, families could rebuild and memories of loved ones preserved with dignity. He commended Family Homes Funds Limited for the initiative and Post Service Housing Development Limited for its role in bringing the project to fruition, and urged beneficiaries to maintain the houses responsibly.

Speaking for Post-Service Housing Development Limited, its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Major General Kevin Okechukwu Ukandu, said the project was more than the construction of houses and described it as an initiative to honour the memory and sacrifice of military personnel. He said it was made possible through collaboration between government institutions, Family Homes Funds Limited and other stakeholders.

Beneficiary Mrs Tina Clement Salami expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Army, the government and other stakeholders, saying, "We are so much happy for giving us a roof over our heads." Another beneficiary, Mrs Agnes Bolarinwa, also expressed appreciation for the housing intervention.
