Muturi Flags Land Grabbing Concerns in Kilifi as Coast Title Deeds Roll-Out Continues

Written on

Former Attorney General Justin Muturi has raised concerns over land grabbing and unlawful property acquisition in Kilifi County, urging secure tenure and fair dispute resolution for residents.

Former Attorney General Justin Muturi has flagged land grabbing and the unlawful acquisition of property in Kilifi County, saying land disputes remain a major concern in the coastal county.

"When we talk about justice in Kilifi, we must address the land injustices affecting residents. Reports and concerns about land grabbing, unlawful acquisition of property and the displacement of communities demand serious attention," Muturi said in a statement posted on Saturday, October 10, 2026.

He made the remarks during the official opening of Democratic Party offices in Kilifi County, where he was joined by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and other political leaders.

His comments come as the government continues to distribute title deeds across the Coast in an effort to address historical land ownership disputes and squatter grievances. President William Ruto presided over the issuance of 36,826 title deeds to Kilifi residents on September 29.

"The people of Kilifi deserve security of tenure, protection of their property rights and a fair, transparent process for resolving land disputes," Muturi said. "No resident should have to live in fear of losing their land or be denied justice because they lack influence or resources." He did not identify specific individuals or properties allegedly affected.

Muturi also called on political leaders seeking elective positions in Kilifi to prioritise land ownership rights, accountability and opportunities for young people, urging residents to assess candidates on their policies rather than political connections.
