Mahama earmarks GH¢500m for district housing projects in Volta Region

President John Dramani Mahama says an additional GH¢500 million has been allocated to district housing projects across the Volta Region, complementing the Oxygen City development under way in Ho.

President John Dramani Mahama has earmarked an additional GH¢500 million for district housing projects in the Volta Region as his government seeks to widen housing development beyond the regional capital, Ho.

Speaking at the 2026 Hogbetsotso Festival on Saturday, November 7, the President said he had already cut the sod for construction to begin on the Oxygen City project in Ho, and that the new allocation would fund housing schemes in the region's districts. “Under housing, I cut the sod for the start of the work on the Oxygen City in the Volta Regional capital. In Ho, a further allocation of 500 million cedis has been made for district housing projects,” he said.

Mahama also assured residents of Anloga that the district would receive its fair share of the housing initiative, which is intended to spread residential development across the Volta Region rather than concentrate it in the capital.

On market infrastructure, the President said preparations were advancing for the proposed 24-hour markets in Anloga and Aflao, with work on the Aflao-Ashigame market reaching an advanced stage. He said land had been secured and the design completed for that market, clearing the way for the next phase.

The technical team from China is being financed through a grant from the Chinese government and is expected to arrive to confirm the project sites and designs, after which the US$30 million grant would be released to commence construction, he said.
