Konza Technopolis housing phase one to deliver 1,042 units as EPZ demand builds

The first phase of Konza Technopolis's affordable housing programme will deliver 1,042 units across 11 blocks, with about 250 already sold and completion targeted for March or April 2027.
The first phase of the affordable housing programme at Konza Technopolis is expected to provide 1,042 units, as the technopolis's growing employment base increases demand for accommodation near workplaces, TV47 reported on 30 October.
Site agent Robert Marua said the phase consists of 11 blocks divided into social, affordable and market housing categories, that eight blocks are up and three are ongoing, and that approximately 250 units had been sold at the time of the interview.
He said the homes are intended for people working in the area, including employees of businesses in Konza's export processing zone, so that they can be accommodated on site instead of looking for rental houses outside. Eric Fereji, site safety officer for contractor Landmark Holdings Ltd, said the EPZ already had about 2,000 workers, some of whom were struggling to find accommodation nearby.
The project is also creating construction jobs. Marua said the site had almost 500 workers, including indirect workers, who are paid weekly on Saturdays. Fereji said the economic effects extended beyond the site, with workers and contractors sourcing some building materials from surrounding counties while food vendors and local artisans also benefited.
Fereji said the government had allocated 10,000 affordable housing units for development at Konza, placing the current phase within a broader programme. The first phase is expected to be completed around March or April 2027, with a partial handover of nine blocks planned for December.
Marua said construction progress was not the only requirement for the homes to become operational: the site still needs permanent water and electricity connections, which were under discussion among the parties involved. Fereji said later phases are expected to include social infrastructure, including a level five hospital and schools.
