The Affordable Housing Board has withdrawn a tender for the sale and lease of commercial spaces at the Pioneer Affordable Housing Estate in Eldoret, days after President William Ruto handed keys to 2,157 homeowners there.
The Affordable Housing Board has cancelled a tender covering the sale and lease of commercial business spaces at the Pioneer Affordable Housing Estate in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, days after President William Ruto handed over keys to homeowners at the project.
In a cancellation notice published on the MyGov portal on October 27, 2026, the board said Tender No. AHB/DISPOSAL/02/2026-2027, for the proposed disposal, sale and lease of commercial business spaces at the estate, had been withdrawn.
“The Affordable Housing Board wishes to notify all prospective bidders and the general public that Tender No. AHB/DISPOSAL/02/2026-2027 for the proposed disposal/sale and lease of commercial business spaces at the Pioneer Affordable Housing Estate in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, is hereby cancelled,” the notice stated.
The board did not give a reason for the cancellation, but said the tender would be advertised again. It advised interested bidders to monitor its website, the Public Procurement Information Portal, MyGov and print media for the new advertisement, and the notice, signed by the board's chief executive officer, expressed regret for any inconvenience caused. No date for the re-advertisement was given.
The tender covered commercial space within an estate that includes 104 shops intended to serve residents. The Ksh5.3 billion development forms part of the government's Affordable Housing Programme and includes residential units, a kindergarten, playgrounds, green open spaces, a clubhouse and a swimming pool, with a junior school, two basketball courts and a football pitch planned.
At the handover, Ruto said Ksh264 million had gone to 84 Jua Kali associations in Eldoret through project-related opportunities, part of Ksh3.8 billion extended to artisans across the North Rift against Ksh61 billion nationally. The Pioneer project is part of efforts to meet housing demand in Eldoret, which was elevated to city status in August 2024; Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has previously said the city's growth has increased demand for decent housing.
