Kenya opens 10-year tender for sanitary ware suppliers to affordable housing builders

Written on

Kenya's State Department for Housing has invited bids for a framework agreement of up to 10 years to supply and install sanitary ware across its affordable housing projects, with three to five firms to be selected.

Kenya's State Department for Housing has invited companies to bid for the supply, delivery and installation of sanitary ware across its affordable housing projects under a framework agreement that will run for up to 10 years.

In a notice dated Tuesday, 27 October, the department said it aims to select between three and five companies to meet its requirements as projects progress. The move is tied to the government's target of building 200,000 affordable housing units a year and a cumulative one million homes over five years.

Successful bidders will manufacture, assemble, deliver, install, test and commission the sanitary ware and provide maintenance services. The government warned that winning a tender does not guarantee a fixed number of orders, since purchases will depend on the actual requirements of each housing project. Orders may be placed directly at the unit prices submitted in bids or through mini-competitions involving at least three suppliers when large quantities are needed.

Local investment is a condition of the agreement: successful companies must establish local assembly or manufacturing operations within two years. Interested firms can obtain the tender documents free of charge from the State Department for Housing's website and the Public Procurement Information Portal.
