Parts of the Villaggio apartment building under construction in Accra's Airport Residential Area came down during heavy winds that preceded Wednesday's rain, causing panic among residents and passers-by.

Parts of a new Villaggio apartment building under construction in Accra’s Airport Residential Area came crashing down during heavy winds that preceded rainfall in the capital on Wednesday, MyJoyOnline reported.

The incident caused panic among passers-by and residents of the area as sections of the building and construction materials fell from the upper floors. It happened around midday as strong winds swept through parts of Accra ahead of the afternoon rains.

Scenes from the Airport Residential Area showed parts of the under-construction building affected, with material breaking off from the top of the structure. Further details, including whether anyone was injured, were not immediately available.

The project sits in one of Accra’s prime residential districts, where apartment construction has expanded in recent years. The report did not say which contractor is on site or what stage the building had reached.
