Ghana’s State Housing Company offers 195 homes with 5% discount

Written on

Ghana’s State Housing Company is offering 195 homes for sale with a five per cent discount, with two-bedroom units priced from GH¢950,000 and buyers encouraged to use pension contributions as mortgage equity.

The State Housing Company Limited (SHC) is offering 195 homes for sale with a five per cent discount for prospective buyers, as it seeks to widen access to homeownership amid rising property prices.

The properties come in two-, three- and four-bedroom options. A two-bedroom house costs GH¢950,000, a three-bedroom property is priced at GH¢1.295 million and a four-bedroom house costs GH¢2.17 million, the company’s Head of Commercial, Agyekum Sampong, said at an open house showcasing the properties.

Mr Sampong announced the five per cent discount and urged workers who contribute to pension funds to explore available financing options. “Anybody contributing to the pension fund can leverage the pension fund as an equity contribution for a mortgage,” he said, adding that the extent to which pension benefits can be used for home purchases will depend on the applicable pension and mortgage arrangements.

SHC Managing Director John Bawah said the company was expanding its project portfolio to support the government’s efforts to address Ghana’s housing challenge “both from the supply side and the demand side,” with the aim of increasing the supply of homes and providing options for people across different income groups.

Mr Sampong said the houses offered spacious rooms and generous land sizes, that the purchasing process was flexible and that the properties were free from litigation.

Despite the discount and the proposed financing options, the company acknowledged that the prices may remain a significant consideration for prospective buyers, particularly workers whose earnings are insufficient to meet the cost of purchasing a property.
