Works, Housing and Water Resources Minister Ahmed Ibrahim says Banda District in the Bono Region could become a major tourism destination hub within five years as the government develops supporting infrastructure.
Ahmed Ibrahim, Ghana's Minister of Works, Housing and Water Resources, says the Banda District in the Bono Region would become a major tourism destination hub in the country within the next five years.
He said the government was working tirelessly to develop the district's rich tourism attraction sites, and that ongoing physical infrastructure development would position the district to become a tourist destination in the country and even beyond.
Mr Ibrahim, who is also the Member of Parliament for Banda Constituency, spoke when he inspected the progress of work on physical infrastructure projects in the district as part of his “Accounting to the people” tour. He stressed that Banda is endowed with attractions such as the Hippo Sanctuary, Bui National Park, Bui Hydro Lake, the Spider Village, as well as archaeological sites, caves and mountains.
“Banda has the natural tourist attraction sites, and we are developing the required physical and artificial tourist facilities,” Mr Ibrahim stated. He added that the district offers significant opportunities for renewable energy development, noting that a floating solar project at the Bui Generating Station could further enhance the area's tourism potential.
The minister inspected works on a modern community social centre and an artificial pitch project, which he said were about 90 per cent complete. Bono Regional Minister Joseph Addae Akwaboa expressed excitement about the number of physical infrastructure projects being undertaken in the district, saying the area had seen improvements in infrastructure development.
Those facilities include police stations, classroom blocks, teachers' accommodation, health centres, nurses' quarters and water and sanitation facilities, spread across communities in the district.
